About TOWING
TOWING is an impact startup founded in February 2020, originating from Nagoya University, with the mission of "realizing a super-circular society starting from sustainable next-generation agriculture." The company develops and sells high-performance biochar "Soratan" (宙炭), a soil improvement material created using their proprietary technology for efficiently selecting and cultivating soil-derived microbial communities on carbonized materials from regional unused biomass.
Soratan's Unique Properties
While biochar is typically alkaline and may raise soil pH depending on application amounts, potentially causing poor crop growth, Soratan has near-neutral properties, allowing crops to grow well even when cultivated with it alone. Furthermore, using Soratan enables the upcycling of regional unused biomass and reduces greenhouse gas emissions through carbon sequestration in agricultural land, contributing to the realization of regenerative agriculture.
J-POWER's Strategic Investment
Through this investment, J-POWER will support the acceleration and expansion of TOWING's business and technology development centered on Soratan. By combining TOWING's advanced agricultural technologies, innovative ideas, and new business models with the technologies and know-how that J-POWER has cultivated through its power generation business, the company aims to create new businesses and contribute to achieving carbon neutrality as outlined in "J-POWER BLUE MISSION 2050."
